Windows sound scheme

Hi, I have a small annoyance with my XP. My sound scheme is set not to have that annoying "start navigation" sound. I got rid of it by creating my own sound scheme without that sound. The annoyance is that after a little time the original sound scheme comes back, and I am once more annoyed with the "start navigation" sound.

I appreciate any help on this matter,

Have you changed the default sound just for this particular event from within Control Panel -> Sound and Audio Devices -> Sounds (tab)?

If that doesn't work or keeps resetting, try deleting the errant .wav file from with the Windows/Media directory.

Failing that, rename another, more acceptable .wav file to the one which keeps playing

Yes, that is the only event I have changed as it annoys me constantly. I try the ways you have suggested. BTW, do you really have XP Pro SP3?
