Task manager problem

I'm using XP and when I try to bring up the task manager, it instantly closes, not allowing me to click anything. Anybody know a fix?

Continuation, and some explanation:

Xp home edition

the problem started back when I was using IE, I now use Firefox.

It seems like quite a nasty virus. It seems like it somehow knows that I'm trying to get rid of it. When I try to install antivirus programs, they will close before they finish installing, basically preventing me from using norton or avg. Even when I do a yahoo search for antivirus, the window closes after a few seconds, almost as if the virus scans for the word "antivirus" on the screen or something. I really don't know what to do. I'm currently trying to run the e-anthology virus scanner, and this is the only one that seems to be working so far.

Any advice?

Failing that try to connect after booting to safe mode, f8 repeatedly at start up

Nasty little trojan in my system 32 folder called TSKMGR~1.exe, eanthology spotted it, I deleted it, and now everything works fine. I guess today was my lucky day.
