Microsoft spyware??

Just bought a Microsoft Intellimouse Wireless Blue - all set up fine, installed the intellipoint software, as the mouse is smoother after its been installed.

BUT

I was just playing Half-Life DoD to see how the mouse performed for gaming, when I got an alert box from ZoneAlert pop up saying "do you want to allow micrsoft intellimouse to access the internet" - WTF??!?!?!?!?!?!

On another side note - does anybody use a cordless mouse for gaming - and how have they found it - this one "feels" different to the normal intellimouse I had before, but I'm still trying to decide if it is worse than my cord-mouse or not......

Any ideas what Microsoft might be up to???

just a thought...

Was the software (Intellipoint) trying to update itself? I can't figure why the 'mouse' would be trying to access the internet, but we are talking about microsoft, aren't we??? 8-)

It was obviously the intellipoint software - but I don't know why it would want the access the internet - there is no update option in the software as far as I can tell - unless it is trying to register itself, but it should really tell me first before trying to access the internet......bloody Microsoft!

After having played around with this mouse for a bit I think I'm going to take it back and swap it for the cord version, as sometimes it can be a little slow when you move the mouse quickly - it kinda "catches up", which is really weird - and does NOT help at all in DoD - oh well, at least the cord version is 10 euros cheaper!

I recently reinstalled my intellimouse software too and it did connect to the internet. I have just discovered that the SPCA is monitoring us for abusive mouse usage.

You will find that some programs will need internet access permission even though they don't connect to the actual internet.
