Floppy Drive not working

I have a Packard Bell Imedia 4709
Intel Celeron 1.3GHZ
256MB sdram
Challenger Motherboard.
I am running Windows XP Professional and when i download SP2,My floppy drive stops working and i get an I/O error. Please can anybody help as my daughter needs the floppy drive for her homework.

My advice (which I also had to do) is to uninstall SP2 (should be in 'Add/Remove Programs'). Hopefully that will restore the floppy drive. Hundreds of users have had problems with SP2. As long as you have SP1 installed, an antivirus program (kept up to date) and a firewall enabled (the Windows one is poor but better than none at all), you will be well protected. By all means download and install any other small Microsoft security patches -- but steer clear of SP2!
