Starting up cd rom

I'm having trouble getting Sims 2 to run on my windows xp desktop. I just recently reformatted it, so I should not be having this kind of trouble. When I insert the CD into the D: drive it does not automatically start... so I go to Start > Run > D:autorun and it tells me no CD in my D: drive. I've done everything, and I just cannot get it to work. If you could please help, thank you.

There are a few methods. Edit the registry yourself. Download TweakUi. Download the patch to fix autorun (untested by me). All available here.
