Go back to Intel http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...4&submit=Go%21

No:7 Chipset - install then Restart your comp, then install audio again

For this driver to work you're audio plugs must be on the I/O plate as here

Don't forget the Restore Point

Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

I too have this problem it seems... I've got the yellow ? in my multimedia Audio Controller, however it's cause I did something stupid... I installed a couple audio editing programs and chose the better one and uninstalled the others... However, I feel as though I must've uninstalled something important... it tells me to simply update it, so in "add hardware" it searches and says it couldn't find anywhere to fix the problem.. I've been searching for my windows CD and seem to have lost it, so I can't reinstall my audio... I've spent hours of research on this and can't find any solution... In the meantime, I have no audio, can't let me change volume, nor will it even let me play a song in mute without a "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device". Please help me...

Hi Bookworm, you seem to be the resident expert here on Multimedia Audio Controller difficulties... anyway, I'm not sure what happened but each time I start my computer it says new hardware found and tries to install software (which can not be located) for Multimedia Audio Controller. I downloaded belarc and here is my info:

Operating System

Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600)

System Model

Gateway E-6000 4000782
System Serial Number: 0028455806
Chassis Serial Number: 0028455806
Enclosure Type: Desktop

Processor

2.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache

Main Circuit Board

Board: Intel Corporation D850EMV2 AAA87987-401
Serial Number: IMMV23402438
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: Intel Corp. MV85010A.15A.0069.P10.0208010941 08/01/2002

I tried going to Gateway and downloading their sound driver in the "My Sound Downloads" area, a program called 7513081.exe - Sound Blaster Audigy driver, vers. 5.12.4.252, but it didnt seem to work. Do I need to do some installing/uninstalling before trying to run this program? Or am I in the wrong area. Thx in advance for any help.
