Under Sound, video and game controllers is the following list:
-Audio Codecs
-Creative Game Port
-Legacy Audio Drivers
-Legacy Video Capture Devices
-Media Control Devices
-Media Control Devices (yes, this is listed twice, not a typo)
-Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device
-Video Codecs

That's it. No mention of SB at all. I was wondering if this may have been the problem, the Legacy Drivers, maybe those aren't supposed to be there? But I didn't want to uninstall anything I wasnt sure about.

ATAPI CD-ROM 52XMax
SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-252B [CD-ROM drive]

same problem

Hi,

I too have the same problem as everyone else, installed windows xp home with SP2 and cant get any sound. Tried all the usual things, uninstalling and reinstalling the audio devices, when I go into sound it doesnt even recognise that there is any sound anywhere. I have details from my computer from the belarc advisor, shown below and would be grateful for any suggestions for what I can try.
Thanks in advance

Perhaps trying the sound card in another PCI slot to see if it is the recognized by windows

This utility will check whether you have a SiS audio driver on your system, there are a few variations of this board with different audio drivers, is SiS say it is there audio then you can install the driver from within this utility
http://www.sis.com/support/support_prodid.htm
Accept the ActiveX the site is safe

These are the motherboard drivers for your ECS K7S5A MoBo http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Dow...uID=39&LanID=8

audio is SiS

Installing Drivers

Create a folder for what you are downloading

Example: Audio
Then download the zipped file to that folder

Then download and install Winzip
Go to the folder and right click and click Winzip extract to here

That will automatically make a folder and unzip files to it ( make a note of file path)

Then go to folder and click on Setup file and follow instructions displayed for installation

If no Setup file

1. Expand "Sound, video and game controllers"
2. Right-click the the yellow flagged device ( or audio device Realtek, Soundmax C-Media etc ) and choose Update Driver
3. In Windows XP SP2, the Update Wizard will prompt to connect to the Windows Update
4. Select "No, not this time" and click Next
5. Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and click Next.
6. Select "Search for the best driver in theses locations" and check "Include this location in the search"
7. Click Browse and select the the location of downloaded driver
8. Click OK and click Next
9. Wait while the Wizard installs the software
10. Click Finish.

What can I do?

For this audio driver to work, your audio plugs must be on the I/O plate as shown here http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

Audio is Realtek, go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...tDown=false#AC

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

Update:

Hi Bookworm,
Just wanted to let you know that plugging my soundcard into a different pci port fixed the problem. I wasn't sure how to do it, so I was a bit reluctant to take things in/out of my computer. My brother came over though, gave me a few instructions and everything went smoothly. Thanks so much for your help.

network and modem problem

Hi Bookworm,

Looking for some help again... a friend got a HP computer, but had Vista loaded on it. They quickly found out that they didn't like Vista (like I've heard from many people) and asked if I could "scratch" it and start over with XP instead. I said yes, thinking it wouldn't be so bad, since it was a new computer, but didn't realize that HP "locked" that PC into Vista only. I have found all the drivers for Win XP Pro, except for 3 (2 of which I know are the Conexant modem and the onboard LAN -- don't know what the 3rd is). In Device Manager, I see these 3 items
1. other PCI bridge device
2. PCI simple communcation controller
3. SM bus controller
