Hi, seems like this might be the place to get the right help.

Deleted some programmes on my computer and all of a sudden had no sound and the little warning sign by the media audio contoller appeared.

Downloaded the Belarc advisor, some of the details:

Unhappy no multimedia
i had to install windows xp on a computer that was built from a shop. It isnt pulling up the media, to play sound. I got the yellow question for multimedia audio controller and ethernet controller. Here are some stats on my puter. I think its not reading the media card and i am not sure what to do.

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing driver just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

click Save File and save to desktop. Then on the desktop double click the file and follow instructions to install

i need help badddddd. i have no sound to watch movies or hear music with with either program on my windows XP service pack2. my system is a hpdv1000 i have already went to www.hp.com and downloaded the Conexant audio driver and the Conexant EQ driver. they are still not working. i open up my device manager and i see a big yellow X on multimedia audio controller. i have tried so much to fix this problem. my serial number is CNF5420HNF. I GUESS THIS IS PART NUMBER....p/n EH438UA#ABA.... ANYTHING IS PLENTY AT THIS TIME..

This EH438UA#ABA gives the model Pavilion dv1404us notebook PC drivers in link below, check that this is the Conexant driver you have already downloaded.

This driver has been a bother, this appears to be the solution

CONEXANT AC-97 audio link installation

1. Install Realtek AC’97 audio driver
2. Reboot
3. Download and try to install the CONEXANT AC’97 audio driver. Pay attention to where it stores the files
4. Go to Device Manager / Sound, video and game controllers / right click Realtek AC’97 select UPDATE DRIVER
5. Select No, not this time if it asks to connect to Windows Update – click NEXT
6. Select “Install from a list or specific location ( Advanced )– click NEXT
7. Select “Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install” – click NEXT
8. DE-select “ Show comparable Hardware “ Conexant should show up under manufacturer since you tried to install the driver earlier.
9. Click on CONEXANT on the left - then select “CONEXANT AC-Link Audio” on the right and – click NEXT. It may ask you for the location of some files, point it to the directory the CONEXANT driver uncompressed to in Step 3
10. Reboot, and you should have working audio

hi, hope you can lend me a hand, have a sony vaio, onboard audio, and already try one of your fixes, -installing sony shared library + install realtek drivers, both from sony site- but right when installing it says that "can´t find realtek match .inf "-----------this is my everest:

i´ll appreciate your attention

go back to Sony and install the chipset driver, will most likley be Intel Software Installation Utility or Intel Inf drivers, then install audio again, you could try the driver from realtek go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...Audio%20Codecs

...doesn´t work
....a little different but same: Now i don´t get the "can´t find .inf file...." but just can´t play anything and now get a: "WMP can´t play..because there´s no audio device - it´s being used by another utility or doesn´t work" and have a yellow mark in DEVICE MANAGER/Audio-Game-Video Device/¡Realtek High Definition Audio

Check this out to see if Realtek is default audio
Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on
down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.

install the Realtek driver again, but use the one from realtek

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a restore point and follow instructions

thanks for continuation...
already try that, but the little window don´t display REALTEK only "modem line 1 and modem line 2" -to add some: in the tab -voice- all the way down is a "hardware test" button and i get "you hardware can´t play sounds", and in the next tab -hardware- does appear Realtek high definition audio" Location:65535 State:This Device can´t start (code 10)

What Sony model do you have or Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

Sound Help
Same old story as everyone else in this thread. (Thanks for all the help!) I reformatted XP, now I don't have sound, what driver am I missing?

I have three yellow exclamation marks in my device manager:
1) Ethernet Controller
2) Multimedia Audio Controller
3) Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

Any ideas to rectify these? I imagine the Audio Controller driver is the cause of my sound woes; what about the other two?
