First check this out and see if Conexant is a choice
Go to Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Sound Playback – click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be something “modem line 0 playback” has been substituted for the correct audio device.
this is the complete drivers package for your comp
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...&product=83862
Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case

Hi again, Barbara!
When I try to change my "Sound Playback" options, the only choice I get in the drop down menu is "modem line 0 playback". It's stuff like that which has me so confused.
It really seems as if my built in laptop sound card has been totally erased or something. I've even tried deleting all but 2 of the drivers listed under my sound devices in Device Manager, then having windows rebuild them. But when I rebooted the drivers were never rebuilt...
Anyways, based on the fact that I get no other sound devices listed in "Sound Playback", do you think downloading the drivers from the link you posted will fix my problem?

Well I'm amazed, seeing as I linked you to the wrong model by mistake, this is an HP notebook not a Toshiba, could have been a disaster, but soo glad it worked.

No Sound!
Recently I had a laptop that totally crashed on me so my employer gave me another recently purchased laptop from an employee that had just retired. I needed to wipe out his files and install some additional software so I just reinstalled Windows XP Home with Publisher. Everything is great except I have no audio.
The laptop is a custom job from a local small business. I ran Belarc and this is what I got:
Operating System System Model
