Unique problem
Alright, I'm borrowing a laptop from a friend of mine to take on a trip with me. Unfortunately I got in a hurry and created a new account for myself and disabled his account. Those are the only two active accounts on the system. So, I log off, go into my new account and start configuring everything I need.
Problem is, I forgot to make myself and Administrator, so now all the administrator accounts are disabled, and I'm stuck with a basic user account. How can I re-enable another account?

go to SAFE MODE (press F8 at boot) and log in as Administrator (you must know the administrator password but sometimes it's set to none). once logged-in go to control panel - user accounts. there you can modify the accounts like changing limited accounts to administrator or vice-versa.
hope this helps.

Problem is, EVERYTHING is disabled, except for the one regular user account I created, including the Admin account. I can't even select an account to attempt to log in with in Safe Mode.

you dont have to log into an account to go to safe mode. the administrator account im talking about is the xp default, the one created after installation thats why i told you that you must know the password but sometimes it's left blank so just click the account named "ADMINISTRATOR".
in order for you to go to safe mode, restart your system then press F8 (keep pressing it just to make sure you wont miss it) at "SYSTEM BOOT"(when the computer powers up) not the XP boot. then you will see a black screen with boot options -- SAFE MODE, Safe Mode with Networking, VGA MOde, Commad Prompt, etc. In there use your arrow keys to choose..CHOOSE "SAFE MODE" - the first one listed. wait until you see the logon screen wherein you can see the account named "ADMINISTRATOR" and the other account you are saying. click the administrator account(supply the password if needed and i hope you know it). in safe mode all drivers are disabled so you will have a 640X480 resolution and dont panic! click YES when a window pops up. then go to control panel -- user accounts. modify and change whatever account type you want.

I went into Safe Mode, got the login prompt, and there were no user accounts I could log in with. No Administrator, and not even the one I created myself. That's what I meant in my other post. If going into Safe Mode is supposed to re-enable the Administrator account, then it's not working right.
Also, I've got all the passwords to the system, so I don't need to worry about that. (Doesn't really help that my friend has about as much concern for his security as he does for his toenails, not matter how much I bug him about it)

quite weird..no admin account in safe mode. if that's the case then u can go here and run it. read first before you run it.
this could be useful info for you -- go here
hope this helps.

The XP AddAdmin program won't work because you need administrator rights to use the program in the first place (essentially just there for people who don't know how to manually change it).
Edit: Plus I think it just causes the Administrator account to appear using the registry fix, rather than enabling/disabling the account.
Also forgot to mention I'm on Windows XP Pro
