Windows XP Home Unusable! Crash at Welcome

Hi there. I am using someone's elses computer for this. Please can anyone help me? I have a Packard Bell computer with Windows XP Home. Just yesterday, as I was browsing web, computer restarted randomly. Then, when it reached the little Windows XP icon just before the accounts are loaded on the welcome screen, it stalls and does nothing and after alittle while makes beepy noises when you press a key on the keyboard. I have pressed f2 , gone to bios setup, changed some of that , doesn't work....More importantly, i pressed f8 to go to the 'boot' setup. i have booted safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, enable vga mode, enable boot logging, last know good configuration, directory services restore, etc...all the options available....nothing....always crashes on the windows logo on the blue screen just before the welcome screen. Sometimes in 800x600 when i do safe mode.....sometime 1280 x 1024 when i boot normally.....PLease help me! Is my computer finished? I have unplugged all wires etc...from back of computer and left out overnight ....Do you think maybe a virus?
How can I fix problem? I have heard I can do a 'Windows Recovery' somehow? How do I do that? Or maybe a System Restore? The thing is I can't because I cant log in to do it! Is there anyway of system restoring when the computer just boots up? Please, can anyone tell me? Otherwise, I will have lost all my work, files etc..... Thanks for any help.
