Unhappy Static in XP

I'm just upgraded to XP from 98, and now whenever i have music playing and either move my mouse, or there is a picture on the screen, the audio distorts and sounds fuzzy. I'm runningan SB Live! Value, any ideas how to stop this because it's really annoying?

I've had the same problem myself in the past (I've got the same soundcard) - mp3 files used to break up whenever I scrolled webpages etc.

A few things you can try.

- Get the latest SB Live! Value drivers from creatives website:

Direct link

Creative's European Support site

I WOULD REMOVE ANY SOUND DRIVERS YOU HAVE PUT ON PREVIOUSLY, LET XP REBOOT AND SET UP THE CARD WITH THE XP DRIVERS, THEN INSTALL THE UPDATED DRIVERS.

- If your mouse is PS2 try it in USB (if you mouse suports USB) - or vice versa. This kind of error cant be liked to the mouse (sometimes you may hear "popping" whenever the mouse is moved)

- Try moving your SB card to another PCI slot, then reinstall drivers.

Try these in order, starting with the new drivers, and last of all trying in in another PCI slot.

Its all to do with processor and mouse usage (such as scrolling windows etc), and how that interupts with mp3 decompression.......the new creative drivers should fix it though.

Good luck!

Tried it all, after fucking about with it a bit more it turns out it the USB ASDL modem i've got, when thats unistalled the bastard works fine. Any idea on that one? maybe a powered USB Hub, to move the interference away from the soundcard?

weird - is your mouse on USB too - if not then I guess it must have been straight interference from the USB modem - nice to know companies make products like that - I would have thought thats the kind of thing that they'd check really......
