HELP about installing software programs

Okay, so I press "install" or "run" when trying to install or run a software program, and this message comes up:

16 BIT WINDOWS SUBSYSTEM
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I can't install or run ANY PROGRAMS!!!! HELP ME!
