Rolling my own distro of windowsXP

Hey guys,

I am interested in creating my own limited "distribution" of windows XP for personal use.

I would like to be able to choose which programs are installed with windows and thus eliminate most of the after install configuration. Also, I would love to be able to include the installation of service pack2 in the installation of windows.

Do any of you know a good, preferably free program that would allow me to do this? If so, please point me in the direction of a good tutorial or website.

Thanks in advance!

Andy

Hi,

The link below will tell you how to do everything you have listed. Im not sure if there is any software which will allow you to add all the same features to your install though:

Or, you could just make an image of your hard drive once you have it setup the way you like, then use that image to install from.

Hello,
Thanks for the tip.

I found a great little program called nLite that allows you to do almost exactly what I want.

It allows you to integrate or "slipstream" service packs and hotfixes into your installation.

You can integrate device drivers.

Setup unattended installations.
And, you can pick what parts of the operating system to install.

It is all very easy to use and the program is free.

Im testing it out now, Ill let you kno whow it works when I finnish!
Thanks for your help!

Iv heard of nLite, never used it myself though. I prefer to do it manually with batch files and .reg tweaks. Plus I thought nLite laked lacked the ability to integrate programs? but if it does what you need then I guess it cant be bad.
