Deploying Windows XP to multiple computers with different hardware
I wish to deploy xp to many computers with varying hardware types.
I understand that if the chipset of the motherboard and power interface on the destination pc is different from the original clone image it will not work. Has anybody successfully achieved this???
The methods involved are as follows.
1. install xp with oem preinstallation kit for xp home and pro.
2. configure desktop icons, etc and customise windows to my liking.
3. remove audio, modem, and other non-essential drivers from device manager.
3. run sysprep to make windows redetect all hardware on next reboot
4. reboot the pc and boot off ghost network boot disks.
5. connect to ghostcast session and create an image of the newly configured pc and store the image to the fileserver.
6. build new pcs for clients and boot off ghost network boot disks to deploy home or pro image to the pc. then, add drivers, apps, etc for each build to order pc.
7. run windows update and then use sysprep to reseal the pc ready for the customer to enter their username, product key etc in mini setup when they get it home.
All is fine except in step 6 where i deploy the image to the newly built pc it won't boot unless i use similar hardware...does anybody know a way around this?
otherwise i would need to make 8 images for the various major chipsets.
via, intel, nforce, sis for xp home and pro.
any thoughts / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
regards,
aaron.
