Full install of XP .... NOW NO SOUND

Just reinstalled xp everything is good with one exception... NO SOUND

Winamp gives me the message....

Bad directsound driver. Please reinstall proper driver or select another device in configoration.

Error code: 88780078

I have had a look at some of the other forums and updated my DirectX software as they advise but it made no differnce, I am somewhat confused as I do not havbe sound card installed and never have but was always able to get sound before, bizarrely the computer still bleeps though for errors... can someone help???

You will find your driver here it is ALC 655 AC'97 it is the 2nd in the list shown for Win XP http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us It is a bit of a stinker to get the server is always busy but you can also get it here

A bit tricky but the board is an Intel i865P/PE and a search on Intels site shows that the audio for all 865 motherboards is the AC'97 you can get the driver here http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21
make a restore point just in case, and if problems with the driver try this site http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True

Could not get the Seanix site to load, but Gigabyte do the same board, GA-8S650GXM, your driver is realtek ALC 650 get it here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&Software=True
create a restore point first, just in case

I downloaded the one for XP, installed and restarted my comp. Still no sound/sound icon. In control panel/sounds and audio devices, under audio tab it shows "no audio available".

THIS IS ONLY A idea shut down your computer, take the side off your computer remove your sound card ant push it back in making sure that you push it in firmly, then try it. also when you go into sounds and audio have you checked that the sound card is there because is it windows default, or a special cd that you installed sounds from.

Don't know if this will help, but managed to get to Seanix site and the driver is here,fill in sections as follows Type-Drivers Category-Systems Sub-Category - Sound cards you have to scroll down a long way to find it http://service.seanix.com/support/downloads/index.asp
it may contain other files. Also if you have your serial number you can get support from Seanix
