Unhappy Transferring Files from an old computer's disk drive.

Can anyone help me? I had a laptop which died. I bought a new one. I need to transfer many of the files from the old computer's disk drive to the new laptop's drive. I have connected the old drive to the new computer via a USB board, and the new computer sees the folders and files on the old drive, but I keep getting Access Denied messages when I try and copy them across.

hi have you used the file and transfer wizard or tried help and support this should guide you to where you want to go.

Transferring files and settings between computers
Connect your two computers over a local network and use the files and settings transfer wizard.

To get started , install windows xp on new computer(which you have done) and ensure that the old and computers can successfully connect over your network. THEN FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO RUN THE FILESS AND SETTINGS TRANSFER WIZARD:

1 ON THE NEW COMPUTER, CLICK THE START BUTTON AND THEN CHOOSE ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, FILES AND SETTINGS TRANSFER WIZARD.
Click Next at the opening page.
2 WHEN PROMPTED, CHOOSE THE NEW COMPUTER OPTION AND CLICK NEXT.
3 In the following dialog box, chose the I WILL USE THE WIZARD FROM THE WINDOWS XP CD OPTION AND CLICK NEXT.
4 At the old computer, insert the windows xp cd into the cd-rom drive.
from the welcome to microsoft windows xp menu, choose perform additional tass the click transfer files and settings. CLICK next.
5 Choose the old computer option and click next..
6 In the SELECT A TRANSFER METHOD DIALOG BOX, CHOOSE THE HOME OR SMALL OFICE NETWORK OPTION AND CLICK NEXT.(if this optio is not available, verify that your network connection is working properly and start over with the new computer.)

IF THAT DOES NOT WORK COME BACK AND YOU DO IT ANOTHER WAY IF YOU HAVE A A DRIVE.

i WILL THEN TRY AND HELP YOU AGAIN.
