No taskbar or desktop icons for about a minute

Hi all. after formatting my computer over the weekend and then reinstalling Windows XP Pro and all the software everything is working fine until last night. What happens now when i log on is that it boots up, the welcome screen appears (A bit longer than normal) and then the green fields show (the desktop theme). I then wait for my desktop icons to appear and the bottom toolbar but this takes about 40 or so seconds. This only started to happen last night.

any suggestions as to why this may be happening??

Try to check your computer on spyware, for example here

You can also look through logs in Administrative tools.

Thanks for that. i have some spyware software i will install today but i thought back to when it started slowing down and it happened when i installed Service Pack2. i uninstalled it last night and all is well again. i will install Service Pack 1 again and see how it goes where as i installed SP2. Normally i would install SP1 and then SP2 but when i reformatted, i went straingt to SP2 which i think installs SP1 as well.
