Question About Unattended Installaions Using Uniquness Database Files For Naming
I recently started studying for my XP Pro 70-270 exam and I have a question about unattended setups that use a uniqueness database (UDB) file for naming. Mabye Im way off on this and if I am mabye someone can correct me.
Ok. When creating the answer file you are given the option to supply computer names which will create a UDB file and automatically name computers that run the unattended setup. What I am confused about is what if you want to assign specific names to specific computers? Does the unattended setup just pull names from the UDB at random and assign the names to computers at on a first come basis?
To clarify this a little better lets say I wanted to name the computers in an accounting department accounting1, accounting2, and so on, and I wanted to name the sales department computers sales1, sales2, and so on. I could supply all the names to the answer file but how do I make sure that computers in the sales department get "sales" names and accounting computers get "accounting" names? If I just feed the answer file a list of names it seems to me that the automated setup is just going to pull these names and assign them with no rhyme or reason to the naming process.
I hope somone can help me on this its really bugging me and none of the study guides I have say anything about it and Im tired of digging on the net for answers (no pun intended). Thanks.
