Well, you may have a valid xp pro key, but the keys are written for a specific release of xp. First of all, they key you have may be for xp home. Second, it may be for xp pro, but for one bundled with sp1. Or it could be a later release of sp1. Or it could be for sp2, but an earlier or later release than what you've got.
It's probably not as diversified as how I've made it sound, but you get the idea. Others will say that each xp disc is coded with a specific key, and won't work with any other keys. That's not true, it's just that there are so many different releases of xp, that there are different types of keys for each one.
I just don't think your key will work with the disc you've got. I would try getting a xp pro disc with just sp1 on it, or something, and try that, then download and install sp2 separately.
just my 2 cents. good luck.
