Windows XP LAN issues

I just recently installed windows Xp professional on my HP Pavillion a220n PC. It was a completely new partition. Beofre I was running SuSE Linix 9.3, so the previous information as far as system restore the BIOS and what have you i erased from the hardriuve when i installed Linux. But anyway, I installed windows everything went well with the partition. However I noticed that the Local area connection icon does not apprea in network connections. I am conected through a router to a computer that has broadband connection. The only icon that appears is the 1394 adapter connection that also has to do with the broadband connection however its the LAN connection that allows you to be online. I did notice under device manager a section called other devices, my ethernet controller is not being recognized. I did not know if this had anything to do with it. What should I do?
