Explorer.exe crash on rename or creation of folders on desktop

This is taken from the Windows 2000 board, and I have not found an answer to the problem yet. Please help, or direct me to help.

Everytime, I try to rename, or create a folder on my desktop, (or anywhere for that matter) my explorer.exe generates errors and has to be closed/restarted. What the hell causes this? It is not Iexplore.exe...it is EXPLORER.exe from what I have found it is not internet explorer related. I have all updates on the computer from microsoft and still have this very annoying problem.

Any help appreciated.

Do this from your Control Panel


Internet Options - General Tab:

Delete Cookies
Delete Files

Next go to "Settings" (IMPORTANT)

Select "View Objects" and remove any non-Microsoft or non-Macromedia and non-Quicktime files.

Back to "Settings" and click "View Files"
Delete all Temporary Files in this folder

Click OK on the "Settings" window to get back to Options and select "Clear History"

Click OK and Restart computer!

I tried the above....but i am 99 % sure the problem i am having has absolutely nothing to do with the internet explorer.

It gets weirder. As soon as i boot up this comuter, I am able to create and rename floders on the desktop.

However, If I open up Kazaa, then close Kazaa, then try to open or rename a folder I get the Explorer.exe has generated errors and will be restarted message.

Weird....

Im tempted to reinstall the OS.

Therein lies the problem. Kazaa wreaks havoc in more ways than one.

My recommendation to everyone who asks is "not" to install or use it. We've had it actually crash several of our laptops, had to redo them.
