I just ran into this problem after I updated my Java RunTime.
Deinstalled the Java RunTime and problem went away.
Since I don't need Java on my PC I won't install it till I do.

Hello, I am posting this here because of this site's high google pagerank.

The workaround for this:

Disable windows update service by going to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and stopping the “Automatic Updates” service. Set it to disabled for now.

This will stop the freezing issue.

The fix for the windows update svchost.exe error is this:

1. Install the new windows update client:

WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe

http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe

2. Install hotfix KB927891

Simlar Prob

I agree with the above post

I had this problem of the svchost.exe using 99% of my processor, much like you guys . And i do realise these are old posts, but when i had this problem i came here and read them to see if i could fix my problem, to which, i could not.

I tried many things to no avail. But what i did find is a way to stop it by simply turning of the "Automatic Updates".
Once i did this the processor immediately dropped to about 2 - 4% idle speed.

There are 2 ways you can complete this task.
1. Click Start/Control Panel/Automatic Updates and select "Turn off Automatic Updates" then click Apply and Ok.

or

2. Click Start/Administrative Tools/Services and right click the "Automatic Updates" service and Disable or Stop

I did both just to be on the safe side although i would recommend periodically updating you windows software manualy.

Hope this helps someone like it did me
