Need help to reinstall XP

I'm trying to reinstall xp and I can't get anywhere with my reinstall disk. Do I need to manually reformat my hard drive?

Is your xp cd sp1 or sp2? If its sp1 and you updated it to sp2, it won't work. Go to add remove programs , look down until you find sp2 update and REMOVE IT. Now put your xp cd in your drive, it should start up and walk you through it.If it doesn't start , click START, MY COMPUTER, right click your cd rom icon and choose AUTORUN. Good luck Lenny
