Lost "Open With ->" Sub Menu

When I right click on any file in Windows Explorer,
instead of seeing "Open With ->"
I see "Open with..."
If I click on "Open with..." it's the same as choosing
"Open With -> Choose Program".
I want the side menu back that shows me the list of programs right away. What can
I do to get it back?

some program put the "shell" registry key under the *
key under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
XP should only have "shellex" and "OpenWithList".
so i just deleted the "shell" key and my open with -> was back.
