Bad XP Problem

Hi!

I am new here and I'd like to get some information to my problem. I had a Win98se long time and it works correct only after about 5 days i had to boot it, nothing moree...no bluescreens errors or anything. Now i have Windows XP PRO cause i couldn't share my HomePNA internet with 98se and so thats why i have this XP. But, the thing why i write here is that why the hell my XP is so bad, it's get BlueScreenOfDeath about once (or more) on day. Sometimes the error sign is that something Win2k.sys and sometimes only memory codes (like 0xo00 = just example). There should no be problems on memory cause it worked on 98se so perfect...? Is the problem in WinXP or something hardware problems with XP? I have installed SP1 but wont help, could someone help...?

Try to post the first numberts like 0x0000007e. It sounds like your memory may be defective. 98 did not require perfect memory and would not catch errors , whereas XP is very picky about it being perfect. Try a program like memtest86 and you will know for sure.

You cannot assume that what worked with 98SE will work with XP. ALL hardware and software have to be upgraded to compatibility with XP.

XP is a good system, but as augie2 said, it is selfish and will usually cooperate with programs and drivers only on its own terms.

If you pass, then I would update BIOS and drivers, as ESALADUANE mentioned.

Thanks for help to all of you, i noticed that my memory settings were manual, i configurated them to SPD (or SDP

) so, now testing and if it will work better...maybe the problem is solved

I mean my SPD (or SDP) was disabled.

Well, i runned Memtest but no errors found...what the hell is wrong? Drivers? Hardware?

is there any motherboard benchmark program that test motherboard works correctly.

Out of curiosity, did you reformat your hard drive before you installed XP? If you did not, how did you remove Win 98 before you installed XP?

Did you update the BIOS on the motherboard after installing XP?

i would agree with the last the post sounds like he/she has upgraded from 98 without a clean fresh install, so it is now having inherant problems,

as long as you have all the RIGHT updated drivers for your hardware and have a clean install of Xp you will find Xp will be real smooth for you mate, i have not had a single BSOD yet with XP (thankfully).

if you can save all the stuff that is important from your hard drive, well then i would do a nice clean fresh install total format first then make sure you have all the correct upto date drivers and you will be fine for sure.

also if you are using the same memory and mobo that you was using with 98 then it will not be your memory causing the problem.
