Very Annoying and Specific Problem

I don't know how this happened but my computer was lagging over something or other then I clicked on a MSN Messenger message box to talk to my friend and suddenly the boxes were popping up to the right of the area of the screen that is visible to me. I then realised for some reason everytime I start up my computer now this off-screen area appears. Everything functions perfectly but this one thing is annoying and I don't know how to get rid of it. Say for example I have my web browser maximised now, it stays in the visible screen area like normal but for some reason this area is still there. Does anyone know what I'm on about and if so could you help? (NB : help does not need to be dumbed down for me).

I just wanted to add also that I have SP2 installed and it is XP Pro

Check your properties box on the desktop and go to settings to see if you have another monitor set-up (1 and 2). If this is so, disable it by unticking the "extend my windows desktop on tis monitor" box.

Any off screen boxes or windows should now appear on screen.
