can't delete certain folders
I have two empty folders in my "Program Files" folder that I'm not able to delete. One is entitled "microsoft frontpage" and the other "xerox". Both folders are in all lower case letters. I remember having windows ME installed on this computer before. I have since reformatted the hard drive several times and installed Windows XP Home Edtion. Anyway, these folders were also present when i had windows ME installed. I'm not able to delete them because Windows tells me that they are being used by another program or person. Are these system folders that come with Windows that I'm not able to delete? Or are they folders containing a virus that I seem to keep getting that no virus detector can seem to pick up on?

Presumably you have frontpage installed, or frontpage extensions?
Xerox may be a printer or something.

i've never had frontpage installed.. and even if i did, i doubt it would say "microsoft frontpage" in lower case letters. i've also never had any xerox product touch this computer. i've got an HP printer. if it helps, the "xerox" folder has a folder inside of it that is titled "nwwia", but "nwwia" is completely empty. the "microsoft frontpage" folder has a folder entitled "version3.0" and inside of "version3.0", there's a folder called "bin"... and when i try to delete "microsoft frontpage", it says that "bin" is the one that is being used by another program... but "bin" is completely empty, and so is "version3.0".

That's exactly how it is. I think this will be related to "web folders", that are part of XP.
I also have the Xerox folder.
They are locked by a process, so they are apparently required.
I would leave them.

Please Help
Hey Forum
I recently Downloaded a movie using limewire (Batman Begins) However after It finished I pressed on the file using Real player. The movie did not open at all. It would not play with any program it seemed. So I tried to delete the file only to be told it was being used by another program or whatever. I shut computer down, went into safe mode and still could not, cannot delete the file. It keeps giving me the same mesage. Is there any way to delete files or better yet, over ride this feature so that i could deleted it? I am nervous cause I think it may be some sort of virus. Please Help.. Thanks!!

there is a way to remove them, i dont remember if they are recreated tho
download unlocker ( http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/) this program tells you what is locking up your file and lets you unlock it, install it and then right click=>unlock

For your kind information "microsoft frontpage" is a windows system folder which is created during the windows installation. So if it is not get deleted, don't take tension. Relax, it is normal.

The "Unlocker" utility mentioned by inoesomestuff is quite effective, and the files are not recreated on next boot.
"xerox" and "microsoft frontpage" are indeed files installed with Windows, not viruses or malware, put there by Microsoft. Mostly, at least in the case of the xerox folder, it's a case of meeting their contractual obligations with a vendor (Microsoft does NOT write ALL of Windows, many other companies contrbute software which becomes Windows)
and to playa4thee: Use "Unlocker" to get rid of that bad media file, then scan your system for malware. And please exercise caution when using any P2P sharing program. (You might also read the Limewire/Gnutella Forums for advice on how to avoid fake/bad files.)

Click Start | Run and type regedit to open the Registry Editor.
Navigate to
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters
In the right pane, right click EnablePrefetcher be sure the value is 3 (the default)
Reboot ....and now enjoy to delete files and folders in XP
P.S. for me works
