Power schemes disabled??

Hi,

Having a problem with XP. First the problem started when I would change the power scheme (laptop goes into standby every 20 minutes). I would make the changes that I liked, then saved it, and after rebooting my computer, the power scheme would go back to the default. Now, I can't even change the power options. Anyone have any idea what's wrong?

Thanks for the help!

Sherry

Are you plugged in to a/c or on battery? It really makes a difference when you are trying to change those settings.

I'm having the exact same problem...

I use my computer on stage with a word document (or PowerPoint) to remind me of cues/chords/set lists as well as sound effects and drums intros. I used to have power schemes set up for live performances and now i can't select any scheme. It drives me crazy!!! My laptop goes into standby ever 1 minute. Please help!

My computer was also a Sony Vaio, unfortunately, I never figured out what it was and I've since gotten rid of it. I think it's some kind of driver problem. Maybe if you try re-installing it, it will work?

Good Luck!

please try this I'm not sure it will work or not

in power options windows go to hibernate tab and look in that windows you will see one box in there, if you have the check mark in there already please take it out, if you don't have any check in there please put it in and restart the PC and see what happen

Good luck

yea i tried to toggle the hibernate functions and just played with that a lot... so this is what i finally did.

!!!Warning... THIS MANUALLY CHANGES YOUR POWER SETTINGS!!!

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg
Modify/Create the Value Data Type(s) and Value Name(s) as detailed below.
Data Type: REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: CurrentPowerPolicy
Value Data: [Select from the following choices]
0 = Home/Office Desk
1 = Portable/Laptop
2 = Presentation
3 = Always On
4 = Minimal Power Management
5 = Max Battery
For a description of each scheme, look under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies in folders 0-5
Exit Registry and Reboot

The site that i got this from said that he had some complaints that it didn't work, but it did fine for me. (make sure you change DEFAULT value and Current Power Policy value) I just left mine on the presentation setting bc i need mine to be on all the time. The description folder also includes any scheme you created yourself. Be careful in there, if you don't you could manually change something that will be pain to fix back, just trust me. Hope this helps.

Cool Reset, repair and enable your energy schemes to change the power options

Full solution, using a registry key, is found here:

http://groups.google.com/group/altoswindows-2k3/t/f7e682aebd1c701d ("Your Power Schemes drop-down menu in the Power Options Properties dialog is empty? (windows-xp / windows-2003)").

Peace!
