I am new to this forum as of today. So if this should go to another section, please advise.
I am trying to get my daughter's Dell 2400 to connect to my network. (See configuration below.) I have a home network that supports an old Micron Clientpro CS via cable from a Westell router, and another Micron Clientpro and an Acer laptop through wireless connections to the same router. I also have a Toshiba laptop that will connect to this network through cat5 cable or through a wireless card. Basically, all of these machines will connect to the access point without any particular attention from me.
This Dell, however, will not. The Network Connections screen shows a local area connection connected through the Broadcom controller. Double clicking on that connection shows its status. Right now, it says connected, with a duration of 1:20:42 (which is how long the machine has been on), and a speed of 100.0 Mbps.
Under "Activity" it shows having sent 61,000+ packets, which probably includes yesterday as well. But it shows I have received zero packets. This is true! When I try to open Firefox (or Netscape or IE6) the machine offers me a dialup connection screen. The other machines just go ahead and connect.
All these other machines connect so easily to my access point (and Verizon DSL) that I am stumped with this Dell. It connects easily through dialup. But I am trying to set it up to download material faster than dialup will allow. My daughter is in a doctoral program, and needs lots of access to the 'Net.
If anyone can snap their fingers and make this machine work, I will appreciate it.

I would also appreciate any suggestions and/or references to printed material or places on the web where this problem might be addressed and solved.
Thanks in advance!!
