Problem with dvd burning

I am running a duel boot, win98se and winxp he sp2.
PIII 933, 750 ram, 128 raedon video
TSST Dvd/Cd burner, Lite-On Cd burner
EZ firewall and AV, Nero, Clonedvd, Alcohol.
I had this all up and running and burning dvd's and cd's. Had a power outage and corrupted the hal.dll file. Formatted and did a fresh install of Xp and above software several times. Now unable to burn anything. Tried burning in 98se, and not a problem for either drive. Tried the cleaner from Nero and reinstall, no luck. Nero locks up, Clonedvd, attempts to burn, then sends an error, "the copy/burn process was aborted". Checked the recording box on the drives, no luck. I noticed when the dvd drive is empty, it calls it a Dvd-r, when I put a dvd in, it calls it a cd-rom. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I do apologize if this is a multilple post. Thank you

Problem solved. forgot 1st rule. update, update and update. updated firmware on dvdr, flashed bios ( which puzzles me, because it worked on old bios ) fresh install of all software. Sissoftware Sandra was very helpful diagnosing.
