New to partitions need help

when I fdisk to delete my partition so I can start over with Windows XP I get "Could not change partitions. because the disk could not be locked" What is THAT?

Boot from your XP disc. During setup, you'll be given the opportunity to delete, then recreate partitions (make sure to backup all important data). I use 80gig drives and partition them into 20gig partitions (20gig "C" drive, 20gig "My Documents", 20gig "My Pictures", and finally 20gig "Downloads"). Doing it this way, I can then image my "C" drive (only imaging 20gig instead of 80gig) and make a bootable DVD for a restore disc.
