Windows XP install freeze

Hi,
I have not added any new parts to my computer but lately it started freezing a lot randomly. So I decided to do a clean install of XP Pro all over again. But the install freezes after it loads the initial files and as it enters the screen where it asks you to either repair windows or install. The keyboard shuts off, all the lights on the keyboard shut off and num lock won't turn back on. I took out the hard drive and put it into another computer and it seemed to install windows fine. THen I put it back into my computer and same problem again. Could this be a hardware issue? I haven't installed any new hardware in a while, and I bareboned it just to make sure. Does anybody know how to solve this issue? Would be the motherboard going bad or the processor possibly?

Zef

I've seen systems run Dos without a problem, that wouldn't run windows. The result is similar to what you get. The culprit was the CPU.

Did you try setting the bios to defaults? The settings can get corrupted. Make sure the bios chip is firmly fitted. They can creep out of their sockets over time.
Reseating the memory, cards, PSU and HD connectors etc, and cleaning the card edge contacts? A pencil eraser is great for this.

Even the PSU may be the problem. Low or over voltage.
It's a case of substituting parts where possible and thorough inspection i'm afraid.

I reseated the processor, and all of the connectors, but still the same problem. The keyboard shuts off at the blue screen where it asks you to install or repair XP, and the cd rom drive doesn't seem to be functioning either. I think it maybe the motherboard going bad or perhaps the power supply? Does anyone know if this is a result of a bad motherboard or power supply?

One more thing... when I enter BIOS, the auto detect seems to be reading the cdrom drive, but when I put in the original disk that came with the hard drive (Maxtor 120 , SATA), it says unable to detect cd rom drive? Any suggestions on what is wrong????

Usually when a computer freezes, it is due to over heating. You may want to invest in a case fan and probably in a new cpu fan.

Some bios's have a system health check that displays tempatures. You may want to check and see what they are and if they are high.

Both fans are working fine, infact they are constantly running, I'm not sure if that is good or bad. Would anybody confirm that it could be the mother board or the power supply going bad? The problems seems to be occuring with just about every component.
