Unhappy Sound Problem

The sound on my computer has been having problems for about a month now. The sound only works when my younger brother plays "runescape" and occasionally when the computer is turned on or off. Other than that the sound doesnt work at all. Any idea at what the problem is and what I can do to fix it? Thank you!

Thank you! But I dont think that is it because that game is an online game and he has been playing it for years and we haven't had sound problems until just recently.

Thanks!! Panda did remove a virus so that was very helpful. Unfortunately... that virus wasn't the thing affecting my sound. Any other ideas? Thanks again!

Ok it's a soundmax integrated sound card so I need the motherboard name to check which version installed. Download Belarc Advisor, get it here http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html install, then post a copy.

You will get information similar to this
Windows XP Professional (build 2600) AOpen AX45-V
Processor a Main Circuit Board b
1.80 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache Board: AOpen AX45-V

Bus Clock: 101 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. 6.00 PG 05/02/2002
Drives Memory Modules c,d
40.02 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
23.41 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

Iv'e underlined the parts that give the motherboard maker, they are not all the same just print what they show if you are unable to paste.

Hope this helps
