Security Center

Ok, iv searched thread to thread up until page 15, and I looked for a search function so that I could solve my own problem, with that said Im sorry if this is a re-post but I am up to my ears with SP2.

Here is the problem, Windows XP, SP2, automatic updates turned off, however Security Center is driveing me crazy. It wont let me DL ANY videos, its constantly asking me questions like...u are are connecting to your mails website is this ok...over and over. I need this entire security center turned off, deleted, whatever.

I did see the thread on page 2 i think that had a reg hack written, I did that, made the .reg file in notepad and tried importing it, but i was given an error saying...Cannot import C:\Docments...etc etc. The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor

Hi,

The problem with the .reg file is either 1 of 2 things (or both):

1: You didnt include the line "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" (without the quotes) in your reg file.

2: You didnt read my post lower down in the thread where I sead "Anybody using the above reg hack please note: there should be NO space in the word "services", its a copy paste error which I cant fix.".

Try again, taking the above into account and it should work fine. Oh, and make sure you restart after you have imported the reg file.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center]
"AntiVirusDisableNotify"=dword:00000001
"AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000001
"FirewallDisableNotify"=dword:00000001
"FirewallOverride"=dword:00000001
"FirstRunDisabled"=dword:00000001
"UpdatesDisableNotify"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\wscsvc]
"Start"=dword:00000004

Ok let me start this off by saying i have a huge amount of respect for your cache, you know your shit. This is what happened last night, I went into the directory u have specified in the reg hack. And deleted what was there and wrote all the commands in by hand. (I know probably not a smart idea) ANd what it did was everytime i opened a video it would give me another screen filled with random garble.

Now that I wrote the hack with the top line included...Windoes Reg...etc it imports fine, but now, and im guessing since i deleted what used to be there in that directory im back to the security settings not letting me DL any videos.

Also and im assumeing this is the same problem, when i start AIM, it says my active X controllers blah blah. It still lets me start aim but imo its a hastle to even see that.

Thanks in adavance

Hiya wook
I've read your posts a couple of times. Have you actually turned your Firewall off?
You can turn it off in the security center which is in the control panel. While your there, on the left hand side of the security center you will see the line: "Change the way security center alerts me". Click on this and you can change the alert settings.

I think Vidster hit the nail on the head with regards to your original problem. If you find you have to restart the Security Center service:

Right click "My Computer" -->select "Manage" -->in the left had pane expand "Services and Applications" and click on "Services" -->in the right hand pane click on "Security Center" -->for startup select "Automatic" --> click Apply -->under service status select "Start"--> Apply --> Ok --> reboot.
