Angry CHKDSK on EVERY BOOTUP!!!!

I had a system hang and freeze while in WindowsXP Pro. Upon restarting my raid was in critical status. I rebuilt the raid and everything seemed fine.

Now EVERY TIME I restart I have to go through the CHKDSK screen just before it boots into windows.
The only thing is it is checking my secondary drive that has nothing to do with the OS. And everytime it checks it finds NO ERRORS!!

This is freaking annoying!! Every boot it scans!! WHY?!?!?!?!?

Dos'nt sound good. Here is what Microsoft has to say. You may have to run repair from the install cd.

Thanks for the reply!!

Not too sure if this one applies to me though.......

First off this is a Fresh install of WindowsXP Professional after a full format, not an upgrade.

Second I have no problems starting windows whatsoever. It scans my backup drive.

My Raid drives have my OS, and all programs. The drives it scans is my 80 GB backup drive.

Also, if I unhook (physically) the 80GB drive I have NO PROBLEMS of any sort.

It is more of an annoyance than anything. Since everything seems to be running perfectly once it scans and finds no errors.

Well I don't really have a handle on it since it is still doing it.

On every boot JUST BEFORE it goes into Windows it runs CHKDSK.

Dunno why???

Did u ever get it fixed?I know its been awhile since u last posted. The same thing happened to me,but mine was due to a complete crash from a virus that partially destroy ed my startup settings.when i did get it all fixed i would get the same CHKDSK screen, and like you it was for the wrong drive. My solution might be strange but i would reboot the second i saw the CHKDSK screen it worked for me after 3 trys at it. BTW,when you did run the CHKDSK scan would it have 3 steps or 5? If it only has 3 then its not a complete scan .ALSO try running norton's Disk Doctor on that drive,it does the same as CHKDSK but it should stop ur problem. if u do use norton make sure you check the fix errors box,but only use it on the drive that doesnt have your OS on it

Well what it would do is run steps 1-3, which took about 1 minute tops before it would flip into windows.

I tried getting it to run a thorough scan within windows and it wouldn't let me. So on next boot it then ran the full thorough scan steps 1-5, and once again found nothing....no bad sectors or anything.

So I restarted a few more times
and got the same typical steps 1-3 scan.

So now I tried defragging(which previously wouldn't work any time I tried since it told me i needed to run chkdsk, which i couldn't then!)....I usually don't defrag very often. It actually let me this time!! Then I proceeded to defrag my main raid drives.....and guess what???

Next bootup NO CHKDSK SCREEN

Dunno why......Dunno how.....am I gonna ask more questions....HELL NO (knock on wood)

So in conclusion I still have no idea what was the problem...it seems that somehow it was caught in a loop where it would continuously on every boot forget that it had scanned and had therefore do it again.

Anyways.......my system is running in prime condition now with absolutely no side effects to the above mentioned problems....maybe it just needed some time to itself!!
