Audio Driver has disappeared

Just reinstalled XPSp2 home. Now have no sound. The sound is onboard. Device manager shows everything is OK, the audio device shows in device manager, there are no red or yellow slashes in device manager. status: Driver is enabled but not started. Both services for Audio are started. Sounds state there is no audio. Downloaded new drivers from manufacturer, still won't work. I have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled drivers. I am going bonkers trying to get sound.

You may have to do this one more time

Disable the system restore / reboot the system the go to this folder:
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch , delete all the files, the go to control panel and and delete the device with red exclamation mark (sound card) , reboot the system, on the restart it will ask you for the sound card driver, that's when you can point the process to the driver folder (instead of operating system doing it for you and sucking the prefetch driver from the C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch directory).

Hope this helps.

Cheers

This didn't work. There is no red exclamation in the sound device.

I solved the problem by reinstalling XP. The sound driver was the 1st driver I put on. Then the hotfixes, rebooting if the fix asked for it. Still don't know why the sound wouldn't work!

audio driver gone code 10 problem

crikey wher do i start,
Yes I too have no sound now...........
I have run for quite a while now some Edirol ma15d powered monitors, no problem, then last week by mistake I took out the lead to my laptop whilst playing some ,music through them.
Yes bang "No Sound", well no bang but no sound nevertheless.
No I go into my Control panel, for sound & audio devices, and it tells me all of a sudden "no audio device", & in the audio tab , it now says
modem #0 line playback........
Now in my device manager, yes I do have a yellow exclammation mark next to SiS 7012 audio device.
Ive tried uninstalling it, & re-installing it "NO GOOD"
Ive downloaded latest drivers "NO GOOD"
Ive tried other reccommended sound drivers, ive read about in other forums that talk of this problem " its quite common by all accounts (Im hoping this is the forum that saves me by the way)...."NO GOOD"
Ive come to the conclusion that ive fried the chip, just by taking the speaker lead out................Now before I spend even more money, on my very limited budget, that is it at all possible that a external USB sound card would work, & get sound again coming from My Laptop. please please please please help
