windows XP, gamespy problem

I just recently got this problem. When I start up Gaemspy, the whole system hangs. I bring up task manager and see that it's not responding, so I'll hit end task. That sometimes works to clear the problem and sometimes doesn't. When it doesn't work, I also can't shut down the system from task manager, I have to hit the reset button on my case. I recently downloaded some software:adaware, kazaa, bulldog and some Windows updates. I thought maybe bulldog was blocking gamespy somewhere, so I shut it off with no change to symptoms. anyone have any ideas?

I would get Spybot or similar. Looks to me that you have installed spyware and this is the problem. (Kazaa full version is to my knowledge, very bad in this respect).

I'll give it a try, but I have ad-aware and bulldog. I run ad-aware almost daily and bulldog tells me when something on my system is trying to access the internet. Thanks tho.

Adaware has only just been updated after a long time. Your definitions may be to old.
Never heard of bulldog. If it's a firewall, i would replace it.

Thanks, didn't know that about adaware. I'll get rid of bulldog and try again.

You could try the newly released AdAware 6 or try reinstalling Gamespy.
