cant install xp from cd

i was attempting to format my computer and install windows xp, somthing i have done probably a million times. i formatted successfully and when it came time to start installing windows my computer locked up. so my computer currently has no operating system on it. i restarted the comp with the xp cd in. i hit F12 to enter the one time boot menu. i selected boot from cd, and i got a message 'press any key to boot from cd'. i hit a key and a message flashed really quick saying 'setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration'. then the message goes away and i am left with a black screen and it does nothing.

i thought maybe there was a problem with my bios so i reset bios using alt F and i still get the same thing. i ran diagnostics and there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with my hardware. i tried using a different windows xp cd and still got nothing.

any ideas?

Try going to the harddrives mfg web page and locating the utility to "0" the harddrive. Ocassionally, a previous installation will hangup the next even after formatting. May or maynot work in this case but worth a try anyhow.
