Question Networking Problem with WIN-XP PRO

Hi all,

Well, i have two pcs at home and have connected them through a cross cable.
both of them have win-xp pro installed on them. One is Intel P4 and the other is Atlon AMD processor.
Recently, I formatted the P4 machine and reinstalled the win-xp pro. configured the network on it as usual. Although, i did not use the option of "Obtain IP address automatically" and "Specified the IP address".
Both the addresses are unique and the workgroup name is same. The problem is as follows which did not occur before formatting the pc.

1) I cannot see the shared folders of Athlon machine in "My Network Places" on the P4 machine.

2) When i go in My network places >> View workgroup computer >> Workgroup >> PCNAME I get the error that "Access is denied to this computer and you do not have permission to view its content [similar to this] Try contacting your system administrator"

3) I can "Map Network Drive" on this computer i.e. on P4 machine although i cannot see the shared folders in "My Network Places" and can also ping the IP of the Athlon machine successfully.

4) I had installed SP2, and also tried disabling the firewall. But in vain, i finally uninstalled it! Still it is not working properly.

Any kind of help on this will be appreciated.......

Thanking in advance

Sam

My network places > search > type in the name of the other computer > you will be prompted for user name and password. Fill in the name and password that applies to the machine you are tying to connect to. Check the box "always remember" and you'll not be prompted again the next time you connect.

i dont know what kinda connection u use, if its dial up then do the following:

check if ur modem drivers are showing any problems in device manager

check the configuration of the ISP, is it the same when u configure it using the wizard to connect the net.

check if the username and password are correct

check if the account is still valid
