Stop error message on install

I had some problems with my comp so formatted the hard drive and now when I try to install windows xp pro I get a problem has been detected message and the following tech information:

Stop: 0x0000008E (0x80000003, 0xF999E612, 0xF9E487A4, 0x00000000)
setupdd.sys _ address F999E612 base at F9996000, Datestamp 41107 c8f

Can anyone help me with this. Can it be a memory problem if the memory check on boot-up seems to be ok?
