Folder no longer accessible...please help

hi i am having a problem with opening my folder.
I am running windows xp home edition, service pack 2. The format of the hard drive is NTFS.
The folder is my music folder (legite files) and my computer has been on for a couple of days, ive been able to access the folder anytime, but after leaving my computer for most of the day i come back and try to select the folder but a window pops up saying that my disk is not formatted and asks if i want to formatt my drive. No other folder that i have tried to open gives me this error message.
So basically i can delete the folder but i would lose all of my files so i do not want to do that obviously.
ive rebooted windows still nothing, i rebooted from last known working properly, whatever you call that, but still nothing.
I cannot open the folder, but when i check the properties it says 0 bytes, and i know i didnt do anything to that folder at all, i do not have any extra hard drive space even though i had over 1 gig in the folder.
So i am asking is there any way i can restore the files in the folder or make the folder work properly?
Thanks for the help

Not sure that this is what you need, but have a look at this from Microsoft Support http://support.microsoft.com/?id=308421

Hope this helps

that didnt work, but thx for the suggestion
does anyone else have any idea on how i can fix the problem
one more thing, i use winamp to play music, so i went under view file info on the one song that i had in the playlist, i copied the directory which was just C:\Music\songname.mp3
so i changed the songname to a different song and hit enter and that song started playing. So basically i know that my files are somehow still there otherwise the new song i typed in wouldnt have worked.
Hope that helps in solving the problem

danielgk...

since this post is really old, i dunno if you even have the problem anymore, but the EXACT same thing happened to me, and this post was the ONLY thing i could find, so it was no help, but...i was able to recover my folder. It would seem that something was corrupted, one way or another. Here is what i did for anyone who has had this issue. 1) run scan disk. this will "find" your missing or corrupted files and put them in a folder called "found001" or something to that extent...i seem to remember having to search for it, but its there..somewhere 2) use MS Back-up to back up the files 3) restore them to a new folder.....I think i lost 3 files out of 200,000 so i was quite pleased. I wanted to post this so something would come up on google, hard to believe we are the only 2 people to have this issue.......good luck
