IPOD with windows 2000 professional??

please help-
my brother gave me his IBM thinkpad. it has windows 2000 professional. I want to use this laptop for my Ipod. My ipod startup disc says it only works with windows 2000 (sp4) or windows XP. please tell me what to do! is there software to change my laptop over so i can use my ipod? i don't mind losing files from the laptop, since it's all my brother's old files....
