Windows XP Media Centre Edition 'AuthorScript.dll' error

I recently bought a pc from HCL. Windows XP Media Centre Edition (with licence) came preinstalled on the machine and installation files were on the hard drive. I got some problem with Windows and formatted the c: drive. When I was reinstalling the Windows, in a few last steps It asked for a file 'AuthorScript.dll' which is supposed to be on the 'CD2' of the installation disk. And there isn't a single one. All the setup files are in i386 folder on d:. When the file was not found, certain components of Windows XP are not installed (Paint, IE, Games and some other small but useful things). When I try to uninstall or install something with 'Add or Remove Windows Component' I again got same 'AuthorScript.dll' and 'CD2' thing. Does anybody have an answer?

No idea about the MCE bits, to me the 1st requirement is to install the AuthorScript.dll

On the Google search link I gave you, did you download it from? > http://www.mdgx.com/xp.htm

This is the link.

Thanks anyway. But there is no AuthorScript.dll file to be downloaded on any of the links you provided or I searched.

Actually, there is, just not one that will do you any good. I have the same problem and the hotfix Microsoft offers is specific to playing/burning DVDs, not installing it. I downloaded the create DVD authorscrip.dll + sebserver.exe update on the first link, but it failed to execute. Thus, I am still without a DVD drive.

I think I had a similar problem, and I fixed it.

I also have an HP media center, and when I was fooling with the "Add/Remove Windows Components" things I had the same problem- it asked for the authorscript.dll on CD2, which I didn't have. I poked around the hard drive for where the installation files might be- I just gave it the path "C:\CMPNENTS\MEDIACTR\I386" and it worked fine.

You said that all your installation files were stored in D:\I386. Did you try giving it that path?
