Exclamation network Connection Problems...please Help!

Hello, I'm new here. Dunno if this thread belongs here, if not let me know. I recently installed a cable modem in my apartment and have been having problems w/ the connection for about 5 minutes the internet works fine but then it just stops, I check the modem, it's fine, I disable/enable it, the connection just dies. The only way I get it working again is when I restart the computer and then the stuff happens. I discovered through the 'Repair' option in Network COnnections that the problem is:

'...Repair operation failed: Purging the DNS Resolver Cache'.

Lately, w/ my 5 minutes of connection, I've been trying to look-up information, but have found squat until today, when I used Windows Help Center and ran 'Network DIagnostics' and these are the results:

from the little I know, the problem seems to be w/ the DNS. But I am not sure how to fix it.

Wrapping it up (sorry if this is the longest post ever) I also checked Windows Help page (http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;318803) and learned a tad more. THis is what I did:

--Went to DOS, ipconfig/displaydns and message:
WINDOWS IP CONFIGURATION
Could not display the DNS Resolver Cache
--Ditto, ipconfig/flushdns: ...Could not flush DNS Resolver Cache, function failed during execution.
--checked registry at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Dnscache\Parameters and I think I might be missing a .reg file (MaxCacheTtl).

I've learned a bit but am still stumped as to what the problem is and how 2 fix it. Found this site, hopefully you guys can help me out and I've done everything I possibly could w/o knowing how the hell I'm doing. Post me thoughts and thanx.
