Cannot delete file....even in safe mode!!
Please help me. I have tried everything and cannot delete this file.
I have tried many of those programs which let you "set to delete this file on next reboot" and they don't even work.
I remember trying to delete this file after I first downloaded it for the first time and it gave me a message that it was in use but I tried again and it didnt give me a message so I assumed it went and closed the folder.
Now its just sitting there and pissing me off because it says its in use when it clearly isn't as I have tried in safe mode too.
Does anyone have a solution? Is there maybe a boot program i can get to help me?

Hi first of all what windows are you using and what is the name of the file you are trying to delete, once we know the name of the file or who or what created it we will try and help you.
Calm down and post back info we have asked you for.

Ok, I take it you've seen my previous post from a few weeks ago. From this can you not decipher that the name of this file is quite rude and I don't want to write it's name on the forum.
It is a file I downloaded using torrents. It is an exe file which is supposed to extract into an mpeg file.
I think you have also read me the wrong way as I am calm. I think it's easy to get the wrong impression of someones emotions when you are reading something they have written. If you really need the name of the file after reading this I will post it no prblem.
Many thanks

Hi no its sometime people put windows 98 in here, that is why i have asked, right, have you tried these two ways to delete it, go to search type in name of file or folder, then when it appears dete it that way, or goto my documents, folders, c drive, programs, scroll down untill you see the named folder, right-click then click delete.
If neither of them will let you do it that way or it comes up who or you need cd to uninstall it, then just try and disable it, untill you have to do a complete install of windows.
I know how annoying these stubborn programs can be.

To be honest with you, I can't really understand what you suggested.
It is just an exe file that I am trying to delete.
I can see the file clearly, I have tried to delete the file and it gives me the message that the file is in use by a person or program and I cant delete it. Even when I log in in safe mode.

I know what kind of file it is but it is the only way you might be able to get rid of it, you have tried every other way. or have you got a restore point you can roll back to before you downloaded this file if you have try that.

No way to go to restore point. i have tried all your ways.
There must be another way...there must be some sort of boot disk you can get which will boot you straight into some sort of dos-based file explorer or something...

If you have a xp cd then you may have to end up doing a complete reformat of your harddrive and install windows again.
Sorry i can't help you further but what i have told you is the way i normally do it, and find it works.

The dangers of P2P eh? It isn't worth it in the end.
So the file is possibly some kind of trojan or something. In use means the file is locked to prevent deletion.
You have spybot, or other scanning program? See what processes it shows and try to kill it, but give us the name of any strange looking processes first.

If all else fails, I would suggest to "slave" the drive to another machine. Then locate and delete the file. First, If possible, try deleting the folder it lives in or even creating one and moving it to there. Then delete the file. Also be sure, to check "processes" for any unusual files running, that may be connected to the problem .exe file. "End process" first, then delete the unwanted file.

Here is a method that I know will work did it last night myself. Updated my BIOS and I had saved the original file to my desktop kept saying it was active and wouldn't let me delete it either.
Do a search on google for advanced system optimizer by System Tweak. Has a free 30 day trial. Install it, it has a feature called secure delete, its found under the privacy and security section. Boot up in safe use the administrator account open the optimizer program select the secure delete function, type the filename.exe in the box and trust me it will delete that file. Its a round about way but if the file is getting on your nerves because you can't get rid of it, it'll be well worth it. Good Luck!!!
