Unhappy Sound & 'Plug & PLay' Problems

Theres 2 main problems in my comp right now.
1. No Sound

heres what I see when I open 'Sound' in Device manager:
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Video Codecs
Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)

however when I click on all of these it says that everthing is working properly.

but when I open volume control I get this message :
"There are no active mixer devices available. To Install go to control panel, click Printers and other hardware add click add hardware"

also
2.The "Plug & Play Enumerator" is missing from the
Control Panel/ Device Manager/ System Devices

I dont know this is affecting the sound in anyway. I have the CD that came with the mother board and I tried reinstalling the sound drivers but nothing seems to be working. and I have no idea how to get reinstall the 'Plug & Play' feature.

info about the comp

Intel Celeron 2.00 gigahertz

p4 Mainboard
648FX-A

O/S : Win XP

Had a similar problem... I'd accidentally deleted the Plug and Play Enumerator and no Audio Device was showing up despite the fact that all the drivers were reported as "Working Properly". This link tells you how to restore the PnP Enumerator.

Once the Enumerator was installed, Windows picked up the Audio Device immediately...solved my problem... might work for you
