intermitent switch ons

Occasionally I experience intermitent periods where I cannot access the net. I use BT broadband and all I get are 2 lights on the router/modem. The problem is cured if I switch my PC off completely at the power source and then after 10-15 seconds switch the whole system back on. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi can you supply more info like what router you have only i am on bt also and if you have the voyager 205 i may be able to tell you where you may have gone wrong but before we start you did insert the microfilter in your phone line?

Await your reply.

I inserted the microfilter to the phone line when I installed broadband. I am using a BT Voyager 205ADSL router and have installed the Service Pack 2 onto XP. I have heard a rumour that an upgrade to the service pack may be available but haven't yet found it. Hope this info is of some use,

cheers................P&B

Hi yes do all updates of windows xp just click windows update on computer and it will validate that you are ok to receive them then let the wizard do its job.

Yes i too have the 205 what i had to do was install everything from cd first reading prompts as it went along, then it told me to install router making sure that it was inserted properly into the usb port.

Once that was done found it worked ok so then uninstalled all traces of dial up and that includes in your antivirus as well other wise that will not update, if you get stuck at any time press the black ? mark for help from bt.

Hope this helps you

Let us no how you get on.

Have deleted all references to old dial up lines, don't know as yet if this has cured the problem as it was an intermittent one. Thanks anyway for the advice.
