Question The dreaded "No Audio Device" problem.

Hi all. Sorry for the bother, but I appear to have a problem that dispite trying to fix it for days it's still bothering me. I've recently rebooted my system and now can't get any sound. All the audio and other devices are freshly installed with the latest drivers I could find. It even says in Device Manager that everything is working correctly, but I'm still getting "No Audio Device" showing in "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the control panel. Any help would be apreciated.

Don't know how much of this would be useful to know, but here goes...

Fix your audio...

Go to start, run, type in services .msc; then scroll down down until you find windows audio. Right click windows audio and select properties, then look for where it says startup type, make sure that selection is set to automatic. Make sure you restart after doing this.
This should be the fix to it.

You could try reinstalling the chipset drivers at this site http://www.albatron.com.tw/english/s...asp?keywords=5. Presumably you do not have a disk that would've come with the computer/motherboard.

Ok. I gave all your solutions a try or had already tried it. But still no audio. Any other ideas?

have you checked in Sound and Audio Device Properties that Use this device is enabled.
In the Sound and Audio Properties dialogue box in Control Panel > go to Hardware Tab > select your C-Media sound device > click Properties > check use Use this device(enable) is selected.

hope this helps

Thanks for that link. It's a handy little program to have. I got the drivers for my motherboard, but unfortunatly still no sound.

Also on another note, I gained acces to a new sound card and installed it. It detected it installed fine but still no sound.

Hi don't think this a stupid question but have you made sure the speakers you have work, I will tell you why I am asking, because I got called out the other day to a computer, with same trouble as yours, everything came up working, spent over 3 hrs checking because no sound from speakers, even checked in mixer, and volume control that they had not been muted, took them out, they worked in the laptop, but not in the computer concerned.
Found out in the end that they were shorting out as they enter the speaker socket on the back of the computer.
Put another set in and now everything works fine.

Sorry if you have tried the above, but was something that it could be.

If your motherboard has onboard sound and you have another sound card installed, you have to disable the onboard sound in the BIOS.

Hope this helps

Ok, we have no specifics on your motherboard brand name( there are quite a few that have your motherboard code ) or the make and model of your computer, this information would help, especially to identify the C-Media AC'97 audio device, theres more than one driver. One thing to try, have you been to Device manager and under Sound, video and game controllers have you tried to let Device manager install the drivers that are listed as audio drivers especially the C-Media AC'97,and giveing permission to do a search online.

Hope this helps

Ok, thanks to everyone for their help. I just freshly rebooted my whole machine over again, and this time for some unknown reason everything is working perfectly. Yay for me!
