XP will only start in Safe Mode

I can only start my PC in safe mode as normal mode gives me the error message stated below each and everytime. I can not use the 'Last Good Configuration' mode as it gives me the same Blue Screen message. I safe mode it won't allow me to use System Restore as it tells me to restart my PC then use System Restore.

I have not run out of hard disk space as I have 75Gb left on my hard drive. The only thing that I could imagine that could've created this problem is that I downloaded a few diagnostic programs including registry ones and wanted to clean up my PC. After I used the programmes I uninstalled them.

I am using XP SP2 on a Dell Dimension 3000. XP SP2 came preinstalled and they did not supply a CD stating that that it was all on the system.

Can anyone help me please as I need to get my PC working again. I do not want to reformat if at all possible as that will mean losing or the need to transfer huge amounts of data and losing software. If anyone can help please can you either post here or email me.

The message I receive is:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try chaging video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x804F3E24, 0xF78D1B68, 0xF78D1864)

I also get different messages occasionally aswell such as:

STOP: 0x0000000A (0x0000000C, 0x0000000F, 0x00000000, 0x804E35E9)

Try this from Microsoft Support, System restore from Command Prompt
